Kiernan Hall Nature Art Gallery
"Transitions From Eye to I" by Marialiisa Pettengill

Opening Reception: Saturday, November 6, 2:00 - 4:00pm
November 1 through November 30

Marialiisa Pettengill is an award winning artist whose lifetime of international experience has profoundly influenced her art. She spent her early life in Finland where she was born. She has lived in Paris, Tokyo, and and traveled in dozens of countries around the globe. She has been a resident of Greenwich CT for about 20 years.

While abroad she studied painting in France as well as in Japan, where she also studied silver smithing, lapidary and lost wax casting. She was recognized by a leading Japanese Jewelry magazine as one of the top new jewelry designers.

Marialiisa Pettengill continued her art studies with different teachers after returning to The United States. She graduated summa cum laude from SUNY Purchase 1987 with major in sculpture.

She has been known as a painter of wild life. After many years of struggle to break from realism to a more personal expression she is now excited to paint her “inner wild life” bursting with color and texture expressing her feelings in bold brush strokes and inclusion of whimsical objects, letting the viewer complete the story.

Marialiisa comments:
I see a fusion of my skills and experience coming into focus by entering that quiet space between thoughts where you disconnect from the rest of the world to witness the inner silence, creation of thought, your authentic self and becoming a force creating your work through knowledge and imagination, memory and emotions: painting from my heart.

Marialiisa Pettengill is a member of The Greenwich Art Association, Old Greenwich Art Associotion and she has been a member The Greenwich Branch of Pen Women.

She has exhibited in numerous group shows and has had several solo shows. She has won dozens of awards in juried shows from First place to Honorable mention.
