Special Holiday Offer
Audubon Greenwich is pleased to announce a special offer to benefit the art lover and conservationist alike. Through your purchase of The New-York Historical Society Edition of Audubon’s Watercolors you can also support Audubon Greenwich. Published by Oppenheimer Editions, this museum authorized printing from the New-York Historical Society collection is unprecedented.
The New-York Historical Society and Oppenheimer Editions are creating prints of the original watercolors from the Society’s renowned Audubon collection. The Historical Society purchased the collection directly from Audubon’s widow, Lucy Audubon in 1863.
Known as The New-York Historical Society Edition of Audubon’s Fifty Best Watercolors, the edition is limited to 200 sets, which coincides with the number of sets that Audubon originally published in the early nineteenth century (1826-1838).
This historic issue is a first edition and marks a unique opportunity for collectors to own actual size fine art prints of Audubon’s original watercolors. By mutual agreement between the New-York Historical Society and Oppenheimer Editions this exclusive printing will not be duplicated for a minimum of seventy-five years. Utilizing the most advanced imaging technology available, the prints are made archival pigments on acid-free imported watercolor paper. As a result, the images are virtual recreations of the originals in the Historical Society’s famous Audubon collection.
The high resolution scans created for these editions will be the first to be included in a new digital archive of Audubon’s watercolors, “a resource for both conservators and art historians,” notes Louise Mirrer, President and CEO of the New-York Historical Society. “This edition will also allow more of Audubon’s audience to witness these great images in person.”
Through your purchase a portion of proceeds will benefit Audubon Greenwich. This is a perfect time to indulge yourself in fine art and support Audubon at the same time.
