Audubon Greenwich to Sponsor Environmental Legislative Forum
January 12, 2011, 8am-9:30am, Greenwich Town Hall
On January 12, 2011, Audubon Greenwich will sponsor a legislative forum to discuss key environmental issues and challenges facing the town and the state this year. Co-sponsored by the Greenwich Land Trust and the Town of Greenwich Conservation Commission, the forum will provide local residents with a unique opportunity to engage local lawmakers on topics of concern.
State Senator Scott Franz and State Representatives Livvy Floren, Lile Gibbons, and Fred Camillo will join Audubon Connecticut’s Director of Governmental Affairs, Sandy Breslin, at the Greenwich Town Hall for a candid discussion of the environmental priorities for Connecticut’s General Assembly. The goal of the forum is to explore the key environmental initiatives advocated by Audubon Greenwich and The Greenwich Land Trust, and to encourage local citizens to discuss environmental issues with their representatives in state government. In particular, the forum will highlight the important role that citizens play in the legislative process, particularly in times of tight budgets, and the need for grassroots engagement with our elected officials on important issues.
At a similar forum sponsored by Audubon Greenwich in December 2009, legislators discussed the need for a wide range of environmental initiatives at the state level, but emphasized the negative affect the economy, the budget process, and projected budget deficits were likely to have on many important state environmental initiatives. All agreed that their ability to create and implement new programs would be stymied in 2010 by the lack of funds. Forum participants will explore the progress that legislators have made in the last year, and how continued budgetary constraints and a weak economy will challenge Connecticut in the year ahead.
The Forum will take place at Greenwich Town Hall. Coffee and registration for the event begins at 7:45am, and the forum will begin promptly at 8am. No admission or RSVP is required, but advanced registration is recommended. For more information or to register, please contact Jeff Cordulack or at 203.869.5272, x.239
