Join us for a special evening as we host Louise Washer, President of the Norwalk River Watershed Association and Joan Seguin of the Connecticut Coalition for Pesticide Reform, as they discuss the science behind neonicotinoids – what they are and how they affect our pollinators, including their effects on birds. They will be joined by Audubon Connecticut Director of Policy, Robert LaFrance, who will discuss the current state of legislation and actions individuals can take to reduce the presence of these chemicals in our backyards and beyond.
Potluck food and hors d'oeuvres will be provided by Happiness Is Back Country Market along with organic wine from The Study Fine Wines! Bringing a dish to share is 100% optional but if you do, please make sure you include a notecard listing ingredients. Bite size sharables are preferred as the Center has limited capacity to provide serving and eating utensils.
6:00 -6:30pm: Cocktails and hors d’oeuvres in our Learning Center area 6:30-7:30pm: Presentation and panel in Kiernan Hall.

Speaker Bios:
Louise Washer
Louise is a co-founder and board member of the Pollinator Pathway and serves as a facilitator of the Pollinator Pathway Pesticide Policy Committee which worked to help pass the Birds & Bees Protection Act in New York last year. Louise is an organizer of Connecticut Pesticide Reform (CPR), a coalition of conservation organizations and individuals working to advocate for organic land management policy in Connecticut, including immediate restrictions on the use of neonicotinoid pesticides. Louise is also president of the Norwalk River Watershed Association and serves on the steering committee of the Hudson to Housatonic Regional Conservation Partnership (H2H).
Joan Seguin
Joan is an active member of the Connecticut Coalition for Pesticide Reform (CPR), where she contributes her experience in research and data analysis on emerging contaminants affecting environmental health. Joan serves as Co-chair of the Land and Water Sector of the Greenwich Sustainability Committee and is a member of the Greenwich Pollinator Pathway and Greenwich Shellfish Commission, promoting responsible land and water stewardship. Joan received her Master’s degree in Environmental Science and has worked as an ecologist in environmental consulting. Her passion for biodiversity extends to her role as a Master Gardener and bird bander with CAS Birdcraft Museum.
Greenwich Audubon Center is a vibrant nature education center located at the main 285-acre Audubon sanctuary in Greenwich. We are a part of the Audubon Connecticut state office of the National Audubon Society and Atlantic Flyway, and steward a total of seven sanctuaries in the Greenwich area. Our mission is to protect birds and the places they need, today and tomorrow. Visitors are welcome to enjoy our miles of trails, nature programs, education resources, conservation-themed events, and nature store throughout the year.
